Draft Article #3

Viva has anticipated her début for some time now. "My patience was beginning to wear thin." Viva tells BEAT in an exclusive interview. "I wanted to enter the music industry for a while now. But I'd never been given right opportunity. That, was until I met my current agency, a talent scout came up to me after a gig and asked us to join. My performance moved him to tears." grinned Viva.

Despite only being released recently, Viva's newest hit début single: “I only want you!”, has created a huge stir. The emotional music lyrics stabs at your heart and anyone who listens seems to relate in some way!The beautiful video also proves that Viva is not just a multi-talented singer-songwriter, she can act too. The video follows the story of a girl's lost love who died in a car crash as she try to cope with heart-ache and "those little insignificant things that remind me of you."( as their hit single goes). I guarantee you'll be crying by the end of the video!

Yet the charismatic girl is increadibly bashful! “ I get embarrassed whenever anyone compliments me or praises me. I'm just doing what I love!”

The Spice Girls have been a major influence on me. Especially their song “Viva forever” Whenever I was going through a rough patch I'd switch it on. hem. Still do! I think they're performance at the Olympics was sensational!" said Viva. “ "Viva Forever” helped me through many hard times in my life. The lyrics are simply inspirational to me. You see, Viva means LIVE in Spanish and the name has such a deep meaning to it, there was no doubt in my mind!" After asking her, if then, she'd ever want to collaborate with the epic girl band she answered as any die-hard-Spice-Girls-fan would. "Of course! I'd jump at the chance." Well, in that case we might as well keep our eyes open for a Spice Girls and Viva Collab.

Ever since her début her popularity has risen tremendously. Shes set to appear on lots of Television programmes and music channels this week, and possibly even presenting her own chart on hit music channel, MTV! We're looking forward to her explosive future with our wide open eyes in anticipation.

I have changed my article slightly to suit the needs of my target audience. For example I have cut down the amount of text within the article, this will make the text more appealing for the audience and interesting.

Draft Article #2

The boys have anticipated their début for some time now. "And our patience was beginning to wear thin." jokes Joel . "We've wanted to enter the music scene for a while now. But we've never found the right opportunity." Says second member, Nate. "That, was until we met our current agency, a talent scout came up to us after a gig and asked us to join. Our performance moved him he said." grinned Nate. The gig the boys performed in was at a local bar in London they helped the owner out last-minute after the hired band failed to turn up. "It was a stressful evening, the owner wanted us to perform at last-minute and we were so unprepared. Yet, we took any opportunity we could find to get on that stage!" Despite the guys modesty, they'd been attracting a lot attention just from the occasional gig they'd done, the clubs and bars had ques of people when they were on stage. Even their talent agency commented on the amount of people who filled the small bar!
After meeting in Uni the boys found a mutual interest in music, Joel was a multi talented guitarist, pianist and bass player. Nate loved to sing and play the drums, both boys have turned heads because of their boiling good look. Though it's not just their looks that are attracting all the attention. The guys newest hit single has created a stir. Viva have been incredibly popular since they're début hit single: "I only want you." They're emotional music video is a huge hit on YouTube, attracting even more viewers and screaming fans to the pair of heart-throbs. The video follows the story of the guys' lost loves who died in a car crash as they try to cope with heart-ache and "those little in significant things that remind me of you."( as their hit single goes). I guarantee you'll be crying by the end of the video! Yet, The charismatic pair don't just attract girls to their music. Many boys and men are enjoying the music that they have created, finding the lyrics inspirational and heart clenching. Anyone would love it.
Viva decided they're name simply. They have both been loyal fans of the one and only Spice Girls ever since they were children. "My parents had they're hits on all the time! Though it's not like I was complaining, I loved them. Still do! I think they're performance at the Olympics was sensational!" said Nate. " We thought since this was another common interest we shared we should have a name that connects us to that. When it occurred to us, our favourite song: "Viva Forever"! Viva means LIVE in Spanish and the name has such a deep meaning to it, there was no doubt in our minds!" After asking them if then, they'd ever want to collate with the epic girl band they answered as any die-hard-Spice-Girls-fan would. "Of course!" Exclaimed the cuties in unison. " We'd jump at the chance." Well, in that case we might as well keep our eyes open for a Spice Girls and Viva Collab.
Ever since they're début they're popularity has risen. They've appeared on lots of Television programmes and music channels, even recently presenting their own chart on a hit music channel! We're looking forward to they're explosive future with wide open eyes in anticipation.

Draft Article

Whats K-POP?

With recent breakthrough of south korean pop singer and entertainer PSY, were all left wondering what is kpop?!

K Pop is basically korean pop music - the k standing for korea - but with the international hit single "Gangnam Style's" video containing some radomly, crazy and wonderfully weird things and a goofy dance routine most of us in the UK are left wondering how is K-Pop any different from our pop culture. This sudden interest in Korean culture is not a new thing either, the dramatic increase in many counties over the seas becoming more and more intrested in korean pop culture since the 1990's is called the korean wave. Funky name, I know.

K-pop is made up of lots of different genres of music, many of which you should recognize: Dance, Hip Hop, Rock and R&B. But also a few you might not: Electronic and Electropop. The artists are usually very young (In their teens and early twenties.) and are considered to be attractive. Which would explain the huge number of fan girls that line the streets in hope of catching a glimpse of their idol. Though the fame is not all it seems. The crazy fanbases of the artists are usually huge and can seen in the thousands on their fancafes - a online site where fans get togheter and support the artists they like. They're made by fans for fans. However, the fame may seem good and all but when you have to deal with pyshcotic fans that put GPS tracking devices onto the vichals you drive in to track your every move like one JYJ member told reporters things can get a little out of hand. These girls are seriously becoming stalkers, though this sort of behavour is not all that different I'm sure than heart throbs 1D and Justin.

The music videos are often bright and colourful, with interesting dance routines that cause a huge number of cobver groups andvideos all around the world. In the cyber web known as Youtube. Unfortunatly many critics have critized the music companies that take on the acts, claming that they only care for looks and not music. I'm sure the fan base will , violently, disagree.

However, dispite all this about the korean wave the world is still left baffeled by PSY recent sucsess and his video has now offically became the most viewed video on Youtube. That is one huge step for teh silent korean wave.

Proposal

I intend to create a Pop music magazine's Cover, Double Page Spread Article and Contents Page. The target audience I intend to hit will be Pop music fans within the age range 15-25. Its going to be a monthly magazine, at a reasonable price of £2.99. I intend to create a interesting article about a debuting artist who has become very popular in the charts recently. I believe that, if the story behind it was true, the audience would be very interested in the story, since it tells them more about the practically unknown artist. Also, since they are rather high in the charts the group would interest readers even more since the magazine is aimed at pop music fans.

Reason for new proposal:

-After reviewing my draft article it occurred that, despite the article being very interesting and written in the right Formal and Informal balance, I, unfortunately, have no Korean models to use for my photography.

Initial Ideas for the Magazine

Initial Thoughts.

-From the research I've done by analysing two different pop music magazines covers I know that many Pop magazines have names/titles that have some connection to music.

-It should be easy to remember.

-One word?

Thoughts:

Strung.

- Relevant to music but too serious for target audience.

The Muse.

-Well known band. Don't feature in charts though. Connection to Greek Goddesses.

Aloud

- Connection to Girls Aloud, female pop band. Connection to volume.

Beat

-Reference to music, short word, easy to remember.

Logo Design Ideas:

Logo with strap-line.

Mood Board

Analysis of Two Articles

 Music Magazines Article anayasis

Vibe

Vibe is a Pop, R&B focused magazine, aimed at audience age range of 16-20. You can tell this from the amount of text that's written by the journalist, since a older audience are more likely to want to read paragraph after paragraph. Also the length of the writing could also suggest that the target audience are people very interested in the genre of music the magazine focusses and are more likely to buy the Magazine for the stories inside. The colour scheme has more or less neutral colours, yet when there are grouped together they give off a more feminine look.

I believe that the images are also edited very well, the small ones creating a interesting layout to the double page as they are edited across the top of the page, though they are black and white it looks good because the main image on the page is in full colour. This means that the black and white images are less likely to cause the audience too be distracted, also it draws attention the main image. The image is also used to break up the text to give the impression that there isn't alot of reading to do.The text itself seems to be informal, but not so informal to the point of being colloquial language.

Top of the pops is a pop music Magazine aimed at teenage girls. This is apparent threw most of the magazine and articles. You can see this epecially on the double page spread for a number of reasons. The main feature of itcthat attracts teenage girls to it is the images of one direction, a popular boy band whom have recently had there big break after performing on the x-factor.
Each image comes with a few small paragraphs about the boy the text is next to, the length of the txt alos implying that its made for teenage girls since theres not too much to make it seem like theres too much to read, yet enough for fans to be intrested. The colouring, simular to Vibe, is blue, grey and white. The colours look gender neutral, though with the images of the boys it gives a more feminine feel. The text I believe s also alot more colloqiual then Vibe, this is because the article is written a a interview, also because the readers will be more intrested in what teh boys say, rather then facts about them.

Analysis of Music Magazine Cover

Pop Music Magazine Research

Codes and conventions of a Pop music Magazine cover:

Two pop music magazines covers.

Vibe, aimed at male pop music fans.

Top Of The Pops, aimed at female pop music fans.

Mast Head and Magazine name:

All Mast heads need to be large and either along the top of the magazine or in the top left hand corner. This is so that when the Magazine is in the shops stall being sold the name of the magazine can be seen. Both of the Mast heads below achieve this.

The Top of the pops mast head is a glittery pink, suggesting that the magazine has a female target audience and possibly a younger one than Vibe. Also, the font of Top of the Pops, especially the "S" will be more appealing to a female audience then a male one. The name, top of the pops, is the name of a old popular TV show where Popular music was performed to the audience watching at home. The name therefore is well known and has some connection to music.

Vibe on the other hand is aimed more towards a male audience I believe, the bright red being a more attractive colour for men then the glittery pink of Top of the Pops.  The font also gives off a more mature feel then Top of the Pops. Vibe, is also a word that is often used to describe the mood at a gig, for example: "The vibe here is amazing!" This gives the name of the magazine a connection to music.

Common features:
  • Both have names that have some reference to music.
  • Colours and fonts that appeal to audience.

Feature Article Photo:

The feature article Photo for the Top Of the Pops Magazine is of popular english singer and songwriter Jessie J. Jessie is popular among many teenage girls and she is also as music artist and therefore has some connection to music. Also, because she is popular in England, the target audience will easily recognize her.

Vibe's Feature Article Photo is of Kesha. Kesha is yet again another popular american singer-songwriter and rapper. Vibe is sold in the US therefore the audience will be interested in reading about her, also the pose that Kesha is hold would be considered sexually suggestive...therefore attracting the male audiences attention.

Common Features:
  • Both are music artist rather than a model or something unrelated to Pop music.
  • Both capture that target audiences attention.

Cover story Headline:

This cover line, in the pink circle is joined by a quote from the article.  Each letter is in the same font on a angle in italics and each letter as a different colour to the last on but still keeps with the house colours: Hot pink, pink and lilac. The actual cover story headline, is quite small in comparison. The colours obviously attract a female audience's eye and  offers more info on the story then most cover headlines. This main cover story headline takes up a lot of room, almost the whole width of the magazine cover. The language of the cover line is informal and uses emotive language like "incredible". This emotive language will definitely make women want to read a celebrities real life story. The quote take is more colloquial language and uses slang words like "haters" which the audience will recognise.

Vibe on the other hand is quite snippy and just informs the reader of the Main feature articles artist that they feature. In this case the colour red is used to emphasis the artist and draw attention to her. Also the font is large and easy to read but doesn't take up a lot of room probably only just a little more then the other cover stories. The language of the headline is more informal then formal, using the well known phrase "guilty pleasure".
Common Features:
  • Contain font, colours and language to attract target audience.
  • Both use informal language

Cover lines:

Both Cover lines for TOTP have used similar font, and you can therefore tell that they've kept in with the house style for the fonts. The colours are also similar and go well together and fit the appropriate audiences likes. They are also have similar language: informal and quite colloquial that are appropriately for the target audience. Two have images giving more info and the two picture of the celebrities will definitely attract the female audiences attention.

Vibe keeps most of its cover lines the same and uses a similar font even for the information underneath, having the headlines in bold though to disguise between the two. The colours are all the same, white background and black writting. The information isn't formal but isn't as colloquial as TOTPs. Many of teh head lines are connected to music in some way as well. (David Guetta.)

Common Features:
  • Language that is relevant to reader.
  • House style and colours fitting target audience.

Plugs:

TOTP Doesn't really offer up many Plugs. The main reason for this I believe is that the audience are less likely to notice the plugs when there's so much going on underneath also because the people whom read this magazine may not read it regularly and occasionally pick it up there for they may need more info then a plug can offer . However the plug that is there has relevant colours that keep the house colours and small piece of info that will arouse the readers interest, using emotive language like stealing. The plug also happens to cover the top of the magazine cover.
Vibe has two sections for plugs, one going across the magazine. It uses emotive language that is relevant for the target audience: Exclusive. The colours and font keep to the house style and all are related to music artists. The one with all the artists names gives the readers even less info about the storys. Just about who its about. This suggests that readers of  Vibe regularly read the magazine and wont need that much persuasion to read the magazine.

Common Features:

  • Both have a plug at the top of the magazine cover.
  • Target audience relevant house style.

Target Audience Research

Research Target Audience

Genre Research

Pop Music Genre Research:

-Pop music is any popular music of the present day, and usually in the charts.

-Usually involves a popular artist.

-Evolved from rock and roll.

-Aimed at a youth market.

-Usual instruments used for the music: Keyboard, Drums, Guitar, Bass.

-Usually the music is aimed at a board range audience rather than a particular group and/or community.

-Artist concentrate on recording, production and video rather then live performances.

-Usually a fast, up tempo and beat encourages people to dance. Which is why many music videos have a dance routine.

-Pop has many notable artists. Two of the most famous pop artists were Michael Jackson: King of Pop, and Madonna: Queen of Pop.

Target Audience and Genre Brief

Target Audience and Genre Brief

I plan to design a Music Magazine for a large age range of people, though mainly teenagers through to people in their twenties, interested in Pop. I have chosen to cover this genre because its one of the most popular music genres there is and therefore many people will be interested in purchasing a Music Magazine of this genre, also I believe that people of this age range are more likely to waste their money on things like this because they don't have to provide for the whole family usually.

Evaluation - Preliminary Task

Evaluation of Preliminary Magazine

Front Cover of the Magazine.

Contents Page of Magazine

For the Preliminary task we we're given the task of creating a front cover and contents page for a school magazine. To learn more about a school magazine we studied a series of Magazines, almost all of these have been posted on blogger. However, for since this task was to create a school Magazine we had to study the school magazine: Excel. I found that the magazine was fairly basic. Though the Mast head was had a effect on it which meant it stole most of the attention from the other cover lines and images, it was generally very basic and minimalistic. The reason for the very basic layout and little information on the front was probably because of the Magazines target audience, all pupils from the ages of 11-18 wouldn't be interested in the cover, unless of course they were on it. They'd be more interested in the contents of the Magazine. Plus it may be because the school couldn't afford to print lots of different things on the cover because of financial issues.

Taking on this idea of simpleness I believe I could have improved my cover page dramatically if I'd stuck to that. However I felt constricted by the things that the Magazines that we'd studied had on. I felt I had to place a extra cover line on to the cover.

When I thought of the name I decided to use one of the most positive words that is one of the schools values. This would make the title something they could relate to and under stood. Then I created a fancy effect on it and used a red stroke on the out side of the text. The colours I used on the effect and stroke soon became my house colours; Red, White and Blue.

My font was also fairly simple and easy to understand. This was because my audience wouldn't read a Magazine that they couldn't under stand, plus the simple sans serif text went well with the basic and simple design of the overall cover and contents page. My images were of things that many of the students would be interested in. For example students that love musicals or are in Fame will be interested in the story. This meant that it would attracted more people attention since more people could relate to it if it was the main cover line photograph.

My contents page was just as simple as the cover, yet it looks unprofessional for some reason. I believe this may be because of the dramatic contrasting house colours I've used. Despite have stuck to the house colours the font of the introduction is too large and looks like the editor couldn't write enough, so next to the already unappealing colours this just adds to the general unprofessional design of it.

If I'd of had more time, I would have changed my colours to suit better and wrote more in the editors welcome so that it would look more professional. When I do my music Magazine I will learn from my mistakes in this Preliminary task and create a very interesting and almost professional Magazine cover.

Re-written Article

Article rewrite into informal language.

GCSE HELL!!!

As I'm sure many of you will agree, taking your GCSEs is no walk in the park! You have to study for some ridiculously, long and stressful hours to get even a decent grade. So, why on earth would anyone think that its a bad thing that these hard working diligent students and earning even better results then previous years?

Well Ofqual ( A regulator, clearly ignorant to the pressures and stress that GCSEs bring) claimed that:

"GCSE English is Too easy"
So, because of this stupid and ridiculous comment all the exam boards panicked and found the need to exam grade boundaries...

Two weeks before the final results were released.

So, all of the sixteen year old's who have taken their GCSEs unaware of these absurd changes have not reached their targets, especially those hoping for a good C grade which their teachers had promised they'd meet in the exams with flying colours. Now, many of these wanting to carry on into further education cannot meet the qualification acceptance levels they require to continue their education!

Here's what other sixteen year old have to say:

"Like, Oh My God! I can't even, like, college course...Its just so, like F***ing unfair!"
Said Anonymous from Hull.

"Its ridiculous, why haven't the government done anything about this!"
Complained Mia from London.

"Now I have to resit my GCSE English course in sixth form rather than one of my chosen subjects!"
Martha from Lincoln

I personally think we should sit down all those regulators and exam boards in an exam hall and see how well they do since its too easy. They should pass with flying colours, right?
Its safe to say that we're all, well and truly, pissed off!

Proposal

I intend to create a Pop music magazine's Cover, Double Page Spread Article and Contents Page. The target audience I intend to hit will be Pop music fans within the age range 15-25. Its going to be a monthly magazine, at a resonable price of £2.99. I intent to create a article about K-pop as it connects with the recent Popular music single gangnam style. The house style and colours will be gender-neutral, so that it will be more likely to attracted a wider ranged audience of males and females. The cover image will be of either a band or artist who has been inspired by K-Pop.

Empire - Analysis of Contents page and Double page spread

Empire - Contents and Double page spread analysis

Empire is a film Magazine, this means that it will have a very small select audience - People interested in films. Also, empire is quite a expensive Magazine, therefore it suggests that the readers are going to be fans of the Magazine. The colour scheme, which can be seen through out the contents and Double page spread, is  clearly: Black, white and red. The red colour has a dramatic contrast against the black and white, this means that what ever is in red stands out and there for emphasis' whatever the red font is.

In the contents page Matt Smith is the main image - they also keep in with the colour scheme because of black and white effect the editor has done also keeps in with the colour scheme and therefore has a greater visual impact on the audience. The picture will also be one of the main stories in the Magazine.

The contents page has a large banner going across the top with a white, thinner copy of the letter inside the bold red one. This type of front gives the contents page a old cinema feel and therefore connecting with Magazine's topic and theme. Also, alone the back in very small, yet clean and simple text is the Magazine's logo. The contents each have a small description underneath each page title. This is because the readers will be interested in the articles contents.

The Double page spread is the feature article of the issue. The James Bond images are stacked up in a neat, formal way, that looks fairly modern. The text columns, three on each page, stick to the traditional style and also stick with the colour scheme, the house colours : Black, White and Red, especially on the captions on the photos that are in white. There are also red subheadings to break up the text, though there is lots of it since the audience of the article are going to be very interested in the article not just the photos.

Cosmopolitan - Analysis of A Double page Spread

Cosmopolitan - Double Page Spread Anaylsis

Cosmopolitan is a womans fashion Magazine. This double page spread shows this instantly with the 2nd page, the very domant images of clothes fill the 2nd page of the double page spread. This is because the target audience of this magazine is Woman interested in clothes, therefore they are more likely to want to look at the clothes that are displayed rather than read the articule about them. This explain the two collums that arn't filled woth lots of text, a pink quote circle breaks up this text as well breaking up the text, making it appear easier to read.
The colour scheme of the Article is: Pink, Black and White. These colours when coupled together give the Articlue a femine but classy and almost sophisticated feel. Thius will draw the targetr audience, woman interested in fashion, to the magazine. To support this theory the font of the title is Serif font. This give the text a more sophisticated look.
Across the top of the Double spread is a banner, this breaks up the layout but also incorporates the Magazinbes name: Cosmopolitan, into the double page spread. Also on the left of the text collums there is a picture of a woman, this picture is very dominant since its the only picture on that page. This suggests that the woman in the photograph is connected to the article the text is. The picture also appears more dominat since most of the omages on the right, the images of clothes, look as if they have been tinted white.

Kerrang - Analysis of Contents Page.

Kerrang - Contents page Analysis

The colour scheme of Kerrang Contents page is black, yellow and white. This colour scheme is used subtley and not too in your face. These colours are neutral and arn't considered either feminine or masculine, this is because the Magazine's Target audience are Rock and heavy metal fans. There are three collums which is a common feature of most Magazine contents pages however the first colloum is bigger then the last two so that there can be a number of pictures. These picture are the Magazine selling point, the biggest picture of Craig Owens is one of the Magazines biggest selling point and probably the main article in the issue. At the top of the contents page there is a banner, the banner shows the words "Contents" in yellow colour and plain simple, bold text. The font is Sans Serif to make the Magazine appear less formal. It also keeps with the colour scheme, since it has a black background.

Girlfriend - Analysis of Magazine Cover.

 Girlfriend - Magazine cover Analysis.

Girlfriend is a Australian teenage girls magazine, because of this there are many notable things about the Magazine cover that have been designed onto this Magazine so that it attracts the Target audience and not just so that it is aesthetically pleasing.

One of the first noticeable key conventions on this Magazine is the Mast Head (otherwise known as the title.) Mast heads are, more often than not, usually in the Top Right hand corner because people who can read English read from left to right - Australia is a English speaking country, and when a Magazine is in a Magazine stand in a shop, the only thing you can see is the Masthead. The Magazine editor does this purposely so that the customer can see the Magazine title. The colour for the Mast head is hot pink. This suggests that the Magazines for girls since pink is often considered a feminine colour, also from the shade of pink we can further gather that the Magazine is for a younger audience that perhaps older females. If the magazines was for middle aged customers they may have used a soft red or a lighter shade of pink. However, the shade of this colour suggest that there's something a little more adventurous, perhaps even a little bit dangerous that to this Magazine that attracts a younger, teenage audience. The bold sans serif text makes the Mast Head both stand out and appear informal, giving the impression that the Magazine is fun and free of rules that teenage girls might feel suffocated by, providing some form of freedom.

The Cover Line is also in the same Hot pink as the Mast Head, drawing attention to the fact that this story is the main cover line. The font of the main cover line stays the same apart from one word, "magic". Written in the same style font as other areas of the Magazine, this part of the cover line appears to be almost hand written and emphasis' the puff ( An emotive word to attract a reader.) intriguing the reader in to wondering what the main cover line means. There's only one other cover line, though its not the main cover story, its a subject many girls will be interested in. "How to tell a friend you like him like that" the main reason for this cover line to be in hot pink is because pink is the colour almost always associated with love, affection and passion. Making the word "him" appear bold brings attention to the story and emphasis just who the reader will be asking. The words "him" in bold will also make the reader want to read the cover line because boys are a topic that girls are often gossiping about. Other cover lines are written in the bold Sans Serif font that the Mast Head is written in though not in the same hot pink, however two of three remaining cover lines I haven't discussed yet both also have the same font as the word "magic" in the main cover line. This type of font makes the text look almost hand written and very informal and personal. This can be connected with the Magazines title. " Girlfriend" Is not just a word for a girl who's going out with a boy. Its also a word that girls tend to call their best friends. This font on the cover lines makes the reader think of the Magazine as a friend and be more influenced to by a informal magazine that they will be able to relate to.

The Feature Article Photograph, shows Emma Watson, dressed in fashionable clothes and make up. Emma Watson, is not only the Main Article in this Magazine, she's also a huge fashion and idol to teenage girls. Any Emma Watson fans, or even Harry Potter fans will be instantly drawn to this Magazine to read the interview by her and become informed in how she is after finishing the Harry Potter films. Because Emma Watson played a major role in the Harry Potter film series, the cover line can be connected with Emma Watson because of the word "magic".

Many of the plugs ( Short snippets of information about story's inside the Magazine without too much detail.) are light up by bright yellow lines or in "Emma Watson all grown up." a star. The word "gasp!" is in the font that looks hand written and is also high lighted by a bright yellow line, drawing attention to the plug beneath it followed by a few quotes. The word gasp is also a puff. Since a gasp is a noise or reaction that some one will do to something shocking, Which is why it is increases the effect the quotes from the short story's from people have on the audience.  The other is about hair tutorials. The last Plug I want to talk about is the bright yellow colour that's in a star. The shape can be connected with something far away and out of reach, like a celebrity- which is probably why we call them stars. The fact that this stair is next to the Emma Watson plug shows how the editor is making the connection. Since Emma Watson is a celebrity so they put a star next to her name so that the audience make the connection and know that theres a story about a celebrity in there.

First Media Post: Key Media Concepts

Target Audience:

The Group of people the media product is aimed at. The target audience can be put in to categories: Age, Gender, etc. This will help the company sell they're product efficiently.

-The Primary audience are the main people the product is aimed at for example a newly developed brand of nappies the primary audience would be parents with babies.
- A product may also have a wide audience where different types of people are attracted to the product, this means that the product is more likely to sell if there are more people who may buy it.

Genres:

A genre is the French word for type and is a term used to describe any category that a media product may be categorised into. The terms for genre vary depending on the area of media you are covering or looking at, For example both comedy and romance are genres used in the film industry and R&B and indie are terms used for certain genres in the music industry. The genre of a media product is often a huge factor in deciding what type of Target audience a product has. For example, a Romantic Comedy film is more likely teen-aged girls than its is a group of teen-aged boys.

Conventions:

Conventions are the key features of a genre. They often are what let people instantly know that this genre is this genre. Here's a few examples:

Romance films will often have things like:
  • A boy meets Girl situation.
  • A series of obstacles they have to over come.
  • Contain's Love scene or hints at a Love scene.
  • Happy ending or Tragedy
Action films will often contain things like:
  • Dramatic effects: Explosions
  • A Hero Vs Villain scenario
  • A love interest
  • Car Chases
  • Fighting
These elements of a genre help the audience recognize the genre without being told what it is.

Codes(Symbolic & Technical):

Similar to Conventions, Codes are a way of conveying media meaning without using words.
-The props, costume and editing are all symbolic codes. For example, to convey that its Christmas or Halloween to an Audience with out actually telling them it is you would place a Christmas tree or a Jack-O-Lantern  in the scene. A costume can change the setting, and let the audience know the films in the past, present or future.
-The lighting is also another way you can subtly put codes in a film. A Horror films lighting is often very dark, shadowy and Un-natural lighting. Where-as a Romance is a lot more softer. Candle light dinners, Sun sets etc.
