Whats K-POP?

With recent breakthrough of south korean pop singer and entertainer PSY, were all left wondering what is kpop?!

K Pop is basically korean pop music - the k standing for korea - but with the international hit single "Gangnam Style's" video containing some radomly, crazy and wonderfully weird things and a goofy dance routine most of us in the UK are left wondering how is K-Pop any different from our pop culture. This sudden interest in Korean culture is not a new thing either, the dramatic increase in many counties over the seas becoming more and more intrested in korean pop culture since the 1990's is called the korean wave. Funky name, I know.

K-pop is made up of lots of different genres of music, many of which you should recognize: Dance, Hip Hop, Rock and R&B. But also a few you might not: Electronic and Electropop. The artists are usually very young (In their teens and early twenties.) and are considered to be attractive. Which would explain the huge number of fan girls that line the streets in hope of catching a glimpse of their idol. Though the fame is not all it seems. The crazy fanbases of the artists are usually huge and can seen in the thousands on their fancafes - a online site where fans get togheter and support the artists they like. They're made by fans for fans. However, the fame may seem good and all but when you have to deal with pyshcotic fans that put GPS tracking devices onto the vichals you drive in to track your every move like one JYJ member told reporters things can get a little out of hand. These girls are seriously becoming stalkers, though this sort of behavour is not all that different I'm sure than heart throbs 1D and Justin.

The music videos are often bright and colourful, with interesting dance routines that cause a huge number of cobver groups andvideos all around the world. In the cyber web known as Youtube. Unfortunatly many critics have critized the music companies that take on the acts, claming that they only care for looks and not music. I'm sure the fan base will , violently, disagree.

However, dispite all this about the korean wave the world is still left baffeled by PSY recent sucsess and his video has now offically became the most viewed video on Youtube. That is one huge step for teh silent korean wave.
